Howdy,

This was originally sent to parrot-directors, but I haven't seen any
movement on it, so I am forwarding it to parrot-dev.

There are some very important bits of feedback in here that I think
are very important for us to address.

Anybody have tuits to throw at this?

Duke

I have a problem with the bug tracking system for Parrot, at
trac.parrot.org.  Bug reports for it apparently ought to be submitted
at trac.parrot.org, but I can't do that, so I'm falling back to plain
email.  Unfortunately I have failed to find any email address relating
specifically to administration of trac.parrot.org, so I'm falling back to
the closest relevant role I can find, Secretary of the Parrot Foundation.

Schwern invited me to add comments to a Parrot ticket which we've
discussed a bit privately, <http://trac.parrot.org/parrot/ticket/505>.
However, the Trac documentation (TracGuide) doesn't say anything about
how to add a comment to a ticket, and the ticket page itself offers
no clue either.  Nor, for that matter, does it provide any clue about
submitting new bug reports.  Looking around the non-Trac-builtin parts
of the trac.parrot.org wiki didn't provide any clues either.  No email
address, not even a link to a web form.

I've reported the deficiency of the TracGuide to the Trac developers.
Their instance of Trac had the same TracGuide deficiency, but other
parts of their wiki did include a link to a web form.  The resulting
ticket is at <http://trac.edgewall.org/ticket/10051>.  I've since found
some links on www.parrot.org (not trac.parrot.org) that look like they
should link to the corresponding form, but the page actually shows a
permissions error message rather than the form.

I also found that trac.edgewall.org has a comment-addition web form on
each ticket page, unlike trac.parrot.org.  Maybe that's a permissions
thing too?

So, my suggestions: (a) Please document on trac.parrot.org how to
submit bug reports and how to add comments to bug reports.  (b) If you
have permissions set to prevent ticket opening and comment addition by
non-insiders, change that: bug reporting is not a privileged action.  (c)
Since Trac apparently doesn't support submission by email out-of-the-box,
please use an add-on to support it if you don't already; the Trac guys
pointed at <http://trac-hacks.org/intertrac/EmailtoTracScript>.  (d)
Please provide on trac.parrot.org a contact email address for reporting
problems with the bug tracker.

Thanks for your time.
