Our quarterly Parrot Developer Summit met in #parrotsketch starting at
2100 hours on Saturday, July 30, 2011. The full transcript of the
discussion can be found here:
http://irclog.perlgeek.de/parrotsketch/2011-07-30. (Thanks, as always,
to Moritz Lenz for providing this logging service.) Fifteen people
participated.
The PDS established four roadmap goals for the next quarterly supported
release, 3.9, scheduled for Tuesday, October 18. Two of these are large
goals which we expect will occupy their development teams for most of
the next three months. On the other hand, two of the goals are smaller
and are intended mainly to compensate for our lack of complete delivery
on roadmap goals for the quarter just passed. Let's start with the latter.
1. Benchmarking: This roadmap goal from Q2 is continued, but with a
sharpened focus and volunteer team members attached. Our focus will be
on developing simple benchmarks which can be run weekly and posted in
plain-text format to parrot-dev and other lists. luben and mikehh
stepped forward to take this on for Parrot benchmarks. They will
coordinate with pmichaud for combined Parrot-Rakudo benchmarks. We
will assess our progress on this in four weeks, i.e., by the Aug 30
#parrotsketch meeting.
2. Profiling: cotto will try to improve our documentation on profiling
to the point where pmichaud has something he can use effectively. We
will assess our progress on this in two weeks, i.e., by the Aug 16
#parrotsketch meeting.
3. M0: Prior to the PDS, cotto posted re where M0 stands and where he
expects it to develop in the next three to six months:
http://planet.parrotcode.org/ or
http://reparrot.blogspot.com/2011/07/m0-roadmap-goals-for-q4-2011.html.
The objective for the October supported release will be a portable C
implementation of M0 linked and distributed as part of libparrot and
ready to start being used. cotto and dukeleto are on this team; other
volunteers welcome.
4. 6model: Prior to the PDS, whiteknight posted about the
implementation of the 6model object system in Parrot:
http://planet.parrotcode.org/ or
http://whiteknight.github.com/2011/07/26/pds_roadmap_ideas.html (section
on 6model). whiteknight and NotFound are on this team. Note: We would
benefit from one or two sentences specifying what we expect to achieve
by 3.9.
Corrections? Emendations? Please post.
Thank you very much.
