If you are interested in using Parrot, it definitely is :)

I definitely think this is a problem with TortoiseGit. Have you tried
cloning any other git repo with it? I doubt it would work.

I have never used TortoiseGit, but I have heard good things about msysgit :

https://github.com/msysgit/msysgit

msysgit is an active project that many core Git developers work on, so
it has all/most of the features of recent Git versions.
